There is nothing better than fresh baguette hot out of the oven.The crisp crust and the soft and fluffy texture inside makes this bread perfect for every occasion. It also makes delicious sandwiches and goes best with soups and salads.
Makes 4
Recipe
All purpose flour- 4 cups
Milk- 1/2 cup
Water- 1/2 cup
Active yeast- 2 tsp
Salt- 1 tsp
Sugar- 1 tbsp
Egg - 1
Soft butter- 2 tbsp
Preparation
1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk and water along with sugar. Let it stand for 5 minutes.
2. In a big bowl add all purpose flour and salt.
3. Stir in the yeast mixture along with egg and knead to a soft dough.
4. Add butter and knead again.
5. Place dough in a large bowl coated with oil. Cover and let it rise in warm place for two hours.
6. Punch dough down. Divide the dough into four portions.
7. Roll each portion on a floured surface into 12 inch rope, slightly tapered at ends.
8. Place it on baking sheet and let it rise again for half an hour.
9. Cut 3-4 diagonal slits across top of each loaf. Coat it with egg wash.
10. Bake the baguette at 180 degrees for 25 minutes or until browned from bottom.
